Xbox Cloud streaming device coming within a year, says report

An Xbox-less Xbox.

An Xbox Cloud streaming device will be on the market within the next year, a new report suggests.

VentureBeat says a Chromecast-like puck will be on offer from Microsoft, allowing users the chance to play Xbox Cloud Streaming titles without the need for an actual Xbox.

The report also suggests that an Xbox Cloud app will be on offer on Samsung TVs, providing the same type of functionality.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Microsoft’s plans; the company itself announced plans to bring Xbox Cloud Streaming to TVs back in June of last year.

“We’re working with global TV manufacturers to embed the Game Pass experience directly into internet-connected TVs, so all you’ll need to play is a controller,” Microsoft’s Liz Hamren said at the time.

“Beyond that, we’re also developing stand-alone streaming devices that you can plug into a TV or monitor, so if you have a strong internet connection you can stream your Xbox experience.”

Microsoft has also recently announced that Fortnite is using Xbox Cloud architecture to bring the popular battle royale to iOS and Android devices without the need for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. On the TV front, manufacturer LG has confirmed that its 2022 range of OLEDs will offer up a native NVIDIA GeForce Now app.
