Tony Hawk’s Vicarious Visions has fully merged with Blizzard

The 31-year-old studio loses its name.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 developer Vicarous Visions has merged with Blizzard, it and Activision Blizzard have confirmed.

The change means that Vicarious Visions, a thirty-one-year-old studio, will no longer use its name.

We’ve officially merged with Blizzard Entertainment,” the studio declared on Twitter. “Our development team will remain in Albany, NY and fully dedicated to Blizzard games. We invite you to follow us [at Blizzard Entertainment].”

News of the merger was first made in January 2021; Vicarious Visions’ Jean Oneal was promoted to Blizzard’s Executive Vice President of Development as part of the announcement. Oneal quickly stepped away from the role, untrusting of Activision Blizzard leadership in the wake of news of sexual harrassment allegations.

Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard back in January of this year.
