Telltale Games layoffs cull 225 of 250 employees

Telltale Games has laid off a majority of its employees, it has today confirmed.

The studio, responsible for titles like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Batman and more, is calling the action a “majority studio closure.”

Only 25 employees — out of a total of 250 — will remain on board to “fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners,” Telltale said in a statement.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course,” Telltale CEO Pete Hawley said.

“Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.”

The first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season was released last month. The series’ second episode will be available from next week, and its third and fourth episodes following in November and December.

Our best wishes go out to those impacted by the layoffs.
