Suicide Squad game to get post-launch offline mode

The live service game is a little less live service?

The Suicide Squad game will get an offline mode as a post-launch addition, Warner Bros and Rocksteady confirmed over the weekend.

News of the mode was first shared by Rocksteady through Discord.

“In addition to our latest trailer, we also have some news to share,” Rocksteady representative EpicYeti wrote. “We’re happy to confirm, we are planning to add an offline story mode that will give players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection.”

The rep said Rocksteady is “aiming to add this update in 2024 and will provide more details when available.”

The new trailer can be viewed below.

The news is certainly welcome — Rocksteady has copped quite a lot of flak for adopting aspects of live service titles that are deemed as negative or predatory. Despite this promise, Suicide Squad will require a persistent online connection to play at launch.

A poorly received in-depth look at gameplay was canned for additional live service elements and caused the title to be delayed for adjustment. Later in this year, a statement by Warner Bros suggested its planning to lean heavily into games as a service for many of its IP.

Over on Reddit, fans still seem angry about a lack of offline access at launch.

“This is Kevin Conroy’s final performance,” wrote Keaten88. “Evil Batman in a shitty corpo greed based game,” added StuffedPocketMan.

“You mean they’re releasing the actual game later, after its release,” asked Swe3t_Coffe3II. “What are they selling us then? Character models?? Are they stupid?”

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is planned for a 2 February release on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
