Star Trek fans start petition for a Captain Pike TV show

Update: Anson Mount has taken to Facebook to respond to the fans asking for a Pike spin-off show.

“I am humbled and deeply touched by this amount of love. I have NEVER received such gratitude. Please know that my own gratitude at having been given the opportunity to walk in Captain Pike’s boots is equaled only by that which I feel for the Trek family’s devotion,” he wrote. “Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Wouldn’t hurt to sign the petition, eh?

Original story: Star Trek Discovery fans have started a petition asking for a Captain Pike spin-off TV show.

The petition starts off by saying “struggle is pointless” — a new riff on Star Trek‘s “resistance is futile” — and praises actor Anson Mount for his portrayal of U.S.S. Enterprise Captain, Christopher Pike. Alongside a request to have Ethan Peck reprise his role as science officer Spock, it asks for a TV show starring the pair. Why stop there, though? It makes the most sense that the show be set on the Enterprise itself, meaning Rebecca Romjin would be ideal to reprise her role as Number One.

While Discovery is set in the year 2257, Captain Pike remains in command of the Enterprise until 2265 (at which point, Captain James T. Kirk takes over). That’s a whole lot of time to tell more stories, eh?

Star Trek: Discovery showrunners have already confirmed that both Mount and Peck will leave the show at the end of season two. While a number of Star Trek TV shows are in production — including a Captain Picard show, a Section 31 spin-off, an animated show called Lower Decks and another animated show for Nickelodeon — one involving Pike and Spock is not.

If you’d like to add your voice to the petition, you can find it here. It’s in French, but your browser shouldn’t have trouble translating it.

The first of a two-part Star Trek: Discovery season two finale airs on Netflix here in Australia later today. In America, the show is available on CBS All Access. While we wait to watch it, we ask you this: would you watch further exploits of the Enterprise starring Mount as Pike?
