Sony will not release cross-gen first-party games across PS4, PS5

Sony will not offer a first-party cross-gen program like Xbox’s Smart Delivery system, instead focusing on games for either PS4 or PS5, it today confirmed.

“We have always said that we believe in generations,” Sony’s Jim Ryan told Games Industry.

“We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.”

From July 13, Sony will require that any PS4 developer ensures its games are backwards compatible-ready for the PS5 at launch.

Sony will be revealing a host of PS5 games in a one-hour livestream next week.
