Devolver Digital CEO resigns over news of layoffs

Former CEO Harry Miller takes the top job once again.

Devolver Digital CEO Douglas Morin has resigned over news that the company will lay off employees at Artificer.

“Yesterday, Devolver and studio Artificer made the tough decision to reduce the Artificer workforce by 28 employees, 18 effective immediately and 10 after their current project releases,” Devolver said in a statement.

“Over the past year, both companies have worked together to navigate the studio’s difficulties to ensure Artificer remains open and that their hard work is realised with the launch of their next game,” Devolver continued.

“Layoffs are not easy, and the remaining team at Artificer and Devolver Digital are committed to supporting these talented and creative professionals find new roles throughout the industry.”

In the wake of the news, Morin will no longer hold the position of CEO; former CEO and co-founder Harry Miller will once again take on the role.

“On behalf of the board and everyone at Devolver, I would like to thank Douglas for his significant commitment and achievements at Devolver in the last four years,” Miller said in a statement.

“Douglas’ energy, leadership and determination were critical to our IPO and programme to build our infrastructure as a listed company, culminating in the exciting System Era acquisition,” Miller continued.

“I am excited by the opportunity to step back into the CEO role. It’s an incredible pleasure and honour to continue to work with Devolver’s fantastic and talented team, building out a strong pipeline of fun and creativity, and of course delivering on our long-term growth strategy.”
