Destiny 2 Witch Queen Dungeons will be an additional cost

They won't be included in the expansion's Standard Edition, nor in its Season Pass.

Destiny 2 Witch Queen Dungeons will not be included as part of the expansion’s Standard Edition or Season Pass, Bungie has recently advised.

This means that players will have to purchase the expansion’s Deluxe Editions to access the content. Bungie has also advised that the Dungeons will also be available separately for an undisclosed fee.

“If you get the Digital Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen you will receive the expansion, all four Seasons for the next year, and the two Dungeons,” Community Manager Cosmo said on Reddit. “If you get the Standard Edition, you can still upgrade to the Deluxe Edition to get the dungeons later. We will also be offering a separate way for you to purchase the Dungeons in the future, but they will not be included in the Season passes.”

In Australia, the Standard Edition of Destiny 2 Witch Queen is priced at $59.95 AUD, the Deluxe Edition is priced at $119.95 AUD and the Deluxe + 30th Anniversary Edition is a whopping $159.95 AUD. While there’s additional content included in those Deluxe Editions, of course, fans are nonetheless upset that three Dungeons are currently locked behind a $90 AUD price. Cosmo’s Reddit post is currently sitting at 2,409 downvotes, reportedly Reddit’s most downvoted comment the day it was posted.

“I know you’re just the messenger, but this is gross,” de1irium wrote to Cosmo. “Breaking the game down into increasingly small purchases really ain’t it.”

“Please Bungie, PLEASE reconsider this,” added CaydeDeservedIt. “It took MONTHS to convince my friends to give Destiny another chance, and now they’re already saying they won’t be purchasing Witch Queen because of this. Don’t make the experience for new/returning players more abysmal than it already is. I know development is costly, but this is not the right way to monetize your game.”

Players are also criticising Bungie for locking previous content in a content vault, making it inaccessible. The next piece of major Destiny 2 content to be sunsetted made up its largely successful Forsaken expansion.

“The Red War, Curse of Osiris and Warmind were all vaulted and all items paid for by folks who bought the game at launch,” wrote sturgboski. “Also all season pass content from Y2 that people paid for (I think that was $35) was vaulted. Forsaken is being vaulted now as well as al the Y4 seasonal content. Hell Y3 season content was built around the fact of it being vaulted at the end of each season.

“Expect any and all of the separate purchased dungeons, the 30th anniversary dungeon, any and all of Destiny 2 as a whole to be up for vaulting at some point,” sturgboski continued.

Another user asked what Destiny 2‘s microtransaction system was funding if not content like these new Dungeons.

“Oof. So what does Eververse fund again,” asked lurker-no-lurking. “You have to walk this back. It’s getting really expensive to play your game.”

What do you make of the situation?

Destiny 2 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5.
