Destiny 2 The Final Shape delayed to June 2024

All the rumours were true.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape has been delayed to June 2024, Bungie has today revealed, following rumours of the expansion’s delay first reported in October.

The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together,” Bungie said in a statement. “We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come.”

Players can now expect the title from 4 June 2024.

The delay means tomorrow’s Season of the Wish will be extended through until the launch of Final Shape itself, and new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes will help fill the void. So too will a new Moments of Triumph event.

“Then, beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler,” Bungie continues. “All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.”

October’s reports suggested that Bungie had not only delayed the launch of The Final Shape, but of the recently announced Marathon as well. Bungie didn’t make comment on the latter title.

At the same time as the reports, Bungie also confirmed it had laid off a number of its staff. That prompted the studio to admit that it had lost “a lot of [players’] trust”.

Destiny 2 is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5.
