Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One release comes with free Xbox Series X upgrade

The Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One release will come with an Xbox Series X upgrade, meaning customers won’t have to buy the game again when moving to the next-gen console.

“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades. Owners of [Cyberpunk2077] for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available,” CD Projekt Red said in a tweet.

CDPR’s intentions mirror those of Microsoft itself — as Phil Spencer told Stevivor back in November, the first-party company believes “your entitlements will be cross-generation and your Achievements will move effectively with your save game.”

It’s unclear if CD Projekt Red will also offer the upgrade program to those currently on PS4 and planning to purchase a PS5. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Cyberpunk 2077 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 17 September. A next-gen release will be available in 2021.
