Aussie studio Mighty Kingdom layoffs impact 28% of employees

More layoffs rock the industry.

Another day, another announcement of video game industry layoffs. This time — sadly — the announcement is also a local one, impacting those at the Adelaide-based Mighty Kingdom.

“Today at Mighty Kingdom, we face the toughest chapter in our history,” an announcement from CEO David Yin begins. “Last week Mighty Kingdom advised its people of a strategic rightsizing to streamline our operations and prioritise core business to align with our vision to the future.”

Yin confirmed the “strategic rightsizing” meant 28% of its employee base had lost their jobs.

“While today’s news is sombre, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our mission of creating delightful game experiences,” Yin continued.

Layoffs have swept the video games industry over 2023 and 2023  Impacted developers and publishers over this period include fellow Aussie studio League of Geeks alongside Microsoft, Sony, DevolverEidos-MontrealRiot GamesThunderfulEmbracer and GearboxTwitch (again)UnityCodemasters505 Games’ Digital BrosAmazonBungieMedia MoleculeUbisoftVersus Evil and many more.
