Scorn Guide: How to beat the boss

Which boss? Don't worry, you'll know the one.

Scorn has one big boss battle near its end, and this guide is all about how to beat the encounter.

Spoilers obviously lie ahead, so read this at your own peril.

Still with us? Great. In Act 5, you’ll encounter a room with two eggs and a place to put one of them. You’ll deal with the first and then squish it to continue on, and then return to the same room to deal with the second.

Whereas you were fine with the first egg, the second will bring you into the first portion of the overall boss battle. This enemy has two phases, as follows:

  • Phase 1: Equip your jackhammer weapon and use one of the cages in the middle to bait the enemy into shooting; strafe left and right to avoid the shots. When the enemy kneels, run over to it and jackhammer the red pulsating blobs on its side.
  • Phase 2: After trying to get the grenade launcher, equip your shotgun and use the cage to aggro him. Shoot at him with your shotgun and make sure to shoot the red egg-thing when it exposes itself. Swap to the handgun if you run out of ammo.

That’ll give you the grenade launcher as a weapon alongside the second egg. Go and squish it to continue on.

After that, you’ll find you’ll need to use the grenade launcher and nothing else. To get the third egg, head back into the main room, stand on the pressure plate, and shoot a grenade into the space that opens. That’ll expose the third egg and set up the final boss battle.

  • Phase 3: Use the cage again to have the boss use all its ammo. When it tries to reload, get behind it and shoot a grenade into its exposed “backpack”.

That’s it! You’ve bested the boss. If you need to watch this happen, check out our video below.

Scorn is available now on Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store alongside Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X; it’s also on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. We reviewed it here.
