Why Bungie had to reward year one Guardians

If you’re still playing Destiny, it’s a safe bet to say you’re a super fan who’s devoted a ridiculous number of hours to the game. So given the only people still playing — and haven’t succumbed to the general Destiny hatred — obviously have the game already, how do you feel about “The Taken King” Collector’s Edition? I was ready to tear Bungie a new arsehole until I saw this;

 “As a thank you to our most loyal fans who have reached light level 30 or who previously purchased expansion I and expansion II by August 31, 2015, you will receive an exclusive commemorative founder’s fortune year 1 emblem, Sparrow, armor shader and more at launch with your purchase of the Taken King.”

Bungie has rewarded Guardians that have played through the turbulent times and supported Destiny in year one with digital extras. I know a lot of people playing (myself included) are likely to buy the new Collector’s Edition purely for the exclusive items, despite owning the game and its two expansions. Apparently so does Bungie. I’m aware of how ridiculous that sounds but it’s true. The only people who give two sh*ts about the extras on offer are the suckers who have stayed the course. Now, not only do we not have to buy something useless, but we see once again that Bungie is really taking all the criticism on board and trying to improve and move forward.

The “and more” mentioned above may even be the same content promised to people buying the Collector’s Edition. If it’s not, the real super fans will probably just buy Destiny again. I have to admit I would consider it. For the sake of my sanity and bank balance I hope I just forget about the whole thing.

After playing the new Crucible mode, Rift, at E3 today I came to a realisation that I am just desperate for any new content in Destiny. I don’t like Crucible and I hate PVP in general, but after seeing a short video by Bungie my hype was so fully engorged to the point that I didn’t even notice that this measly offering of a new Crucible mode didn’t interest me. I was disappointed, but the announcement by Bungie posts that it is rewarding me for my loyalty and all is forgiven. This Destiny business really is a roller coaster of expectation, disappointment and celebration.

“The Taken King” will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One 15 September 2015. My preview will be available on Stevivor soon.
