How The Outer Worlds’ Spacer’s Choice got its name

"When life gives you lemons, consider it a free trial from your friends at Spacer's Choice!"

In conversation with Stevivor, The Outer Worlds co-producer Tim Cain revealed how he came to name the mega-corporation known as Spacer’s Choice.

“I love Futurama,” Cain began… though you don’t have that particular franchise to thank for the moniker. Instead, Cain drew inspiration from its cousin.

“Spacer’s Choice was the first corporation I wrote because I just re-watched The Simpsons [episode] where Bart gives everyone in the family gifts after he makes a fake credit card in the dog’s name,” Cain continued. “What he gives Lisa is a bunch of pep pills from Trucker’s Choice.

“I thought that was hilarious. So I’m like, ‘I’m going to name a company Spacer’s Choice and it’s going to have the dumbest slogan I can think of.'”

Turns out, Spacer’s Choice doesn’t just have one dumb slogan, but several. From “It’s not the best choice, it’s Spacer’s Choice” to “You’ve tried the best, now try the rest” and beyond, we feel that Cain nailed it. Don’t even get us started on the Moon Man.

The Outer Worlds and its Murder on Eridanos DLC is out now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4, PS5 and Switch. We previewed Murder on Eridanos here.
