Xbox Series X Auto HDR in action using Alan Wake

We’re continuing to put the Xbox Series X through its paces, this time showing off its Auto HDR inside the Xbox 360’s Alan Wake.

Below is a video comparing the same scenes using Xbox One X backwards compatibility (and thus, no HDR) and using Xbox Series X backwards compatibility complete with the Auto HDR functionality. For those unaware, the Series X uses machine learning to add HDR into games that weren’t programmed with it.

To be honest, the Auto HDR provides some amazing visuals in Alan Wake at the same time it makes some bits and pieces a little too illuminated. Take a look at the scenes and let us know which you prefer in the comments area below.

Alan Wake was originally released on the Xbox 360 and is available on it, the Xbox One and the upcoming Xbox Series X. It’s also available on Windows PC.
