Yes, Joy-Cons actually make the Switch “click” sound when they’re attached

In what has to be the most satisfying controller connection confirmation ever, it’s been revealed the already iconic Nintendo Switch clicking sound effect is made when a Joy-Con is attached to the console.

The video below is a snippet taken from a Disgaea 5 live stream, which included attaching the Joy-Cons to the side of the Switch.

We didn’t notice this at the recent hands-on event. In fact, Steve Wright mentioned how he hoped Switch would make the sound effect during its boot-up screen. But those were debug consoles purposely not displaying features from the operating system outside of the game each unit was setup to demonstrate, which explains why this has only now been discovered.

Attaching and removing the Joy-Cons is a seamless task, and crucial to the design of the Switch — you don’t want to risk dropping it because they’re not connected properly. As well as the audible confirmation, the video also reveals an extremely obvious visual sign that each Joy-Con has been connected.
