Destiny year two: Now with Vault space!

Bungie dropped a tonne of new info in its live stream today. The stream focused on the tower and changes for year two of Destiny.

First and most importantly for a lot of players, Vault space has been increased. Weapon space has been doubled and the amount of available space for armour has more than doubled. It’s about time.

New terminals have been placed around the tower for collections. In the stream we saw collections for emblems, exotic weapons and exotic armour. There was also mention of a terminal for shaders.

For shaders and emblems, you’ll have access to any you’ve previously acquired, freeing up your now-boosted Vault space even more. Anything you don’t have will be displayed as unacquired with a description of how you can obtain it. At this stage its not known if this includes emblems and shaders discarded before the launch of “The Taken King” or if this only applies to what you have once the expansion is released.

The exotic collections allow you access to any exotic you’ve previously received in its year one form. You can also use these terminals to access new versions of previous exotics in their new more powerful year two form. Not all exotics are being brought forward but those that are will have new perks and an increased damage or armour stat. New versions of old exotics can be purchased from the collection terminal by spending legendary marks.

Legendary marks will replace the current vanguard and crucible marks and are available through daily and weekly heroic missions and Crucible playlists. They have a cap of 200 and will be shared across all characters on a profile. When “The Taken King” launches all Vanguard Crucible marks will be turned into commendations that can be used to gain reputation with vendors.

Light will now be calculated on all slots with gear equipped including your Ghost and used as an overall representation of damage and armour. Light will be used as a guide for activities from the director giving a recommended level for each activity. This is still separate from your level with the new cap of 40 which can be reached purely through gaining experience.

The Gunsmith will now have a reputation to grind either by completing certain quests or participating in field testing weapons. Once a certain level is reached you’ll gain access to armsday packages. Once purchased these will act like an order system, delivering the new weapon you ordered the day after the weekly refresh with random perks.

Finally new weapons and armour have the ability to increase in level past their original cap using the new infusion slot. If you like a particular gun for example you can sacrifice more powerful weapons to increase its overall damage output. We can only assume at this point that this will only work up until a certain level when the new damage cap is reached.

There will be two more live reveals before “The Taken King” launches on 15 September. Is this starting to look like its worth $70 AUS? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
