Sitting down to sit with Stevivor, the voice of J.D. Fenix in Gears of War 4, Adelaide-born Liam McIntyre, said he’s proud to be referred to as a gamer.
“I’m a big gamer, I’m happy to say — I wear that proudly my friend. I wear that title proudly,” he said, speaking of his history with video games. “I was the kid that got beat up for his lunch money when I was at school. If you want to come at me with, ‘you’re a gamer and less cool than me,’ then come at me.”
It’s hard to believe that anyone could come at McIntyre now. No stranger to video game voiceover work — you’ll also hear him inside Star Trek: Online — McIntyre was also the lead character in Starz’ Spartacus. The opportunities he’s been presented haven’t been lost on him.
“I know right? I get to be JD Fenix and Spartacus so, like I’m okay now,” he said. “I feel like I’m in a safe space.”
In addition to his television and video game work, McIntyre’s fresh off a successful Kickstarter run for a card game called Monster Lab.
“Monster Lab is one of those things where I’m like,’how lucky am I to be able to do exactly all three of those things with my life?’,” he remarked. “Where I get to be this historic character that’s just freaking sweet, this amazing video game character, and get to make my own card game. Like, I don’t know what I did, but I’m so lucky. So if I ever get to be James Bond or Batman then I’m just going to have to immediately retire from life.”
Not bad for a former EB Games Assistant Manager, eh?
You’ll be able to hear McIntyre’s work in Gears of War 4 upon its release next week on Windows PC and Xbox One.
