DualShock 3 the default controller for PlayStation Now; Vita and PS4 use native input methods

With PlayStation Now being announced yesterday, Sony has revealed that for every device other than the PS Vita and PS4 (which will use their native input devices) the DualShock 3 will be the standard controller for the service.

The service — which rolls out in North America later this year — will eventually be available for tablets and smartphones in addition to PS Vita, PS3, PS4 and Bravia TVs. When it does arrive for smartphones and tablets a DualShock 3 will be required to play streamed games.

In an interview with CVG SCEA VP of Marketing John Koller said, “The DualShock remains the key ingredient. So that controller experience needs to go perfectly. We didn’t want to utilise touch screen or anything like that because the games are best played with a DualShock.”

In the video below from Engagdet you can see that the service can be controlled on the Vita with the handhelds built-in interface.

A Sony representative confirmed with Joystiq that on PS4 you can use the service with a DualShock 4 and a DualShock 3 is required for use on the PS3 and Bravia TVs.

The service will commence with a closed beta in North America for PS3 and PS4 later this month. Whether the service will be available outside of the US is not known at this stage.
