Review: Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate

Warriors Orochi 3 was first released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in April 2012. Then for Wii U in December of that same year with the subtitle Hyper. Now Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate is available for PS3, PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One.

We’ve reviewed the Wii U version and what you’re getting with this updated version is essentially the same game with a few new bells and whistles and no GamePad functionality.

New to Ultimate are a bunch of characters, slightly improved textures and graphics and two new “stories.” Characters added include Hundun, a young Nezha, Yinglong, Kyūbi no Kitsune, Mae Tamamo, Kasumi from DOA, Sterkenburg from Atelier Arland and Sophitia from Soul Calibur. The two new “stories” are The Tale of the Latter Day and The Tale of the Former Day. The Tale of the Latter Day follows on from the defeat of of Hydra and provides some additional insight into the world of Warriors Orochi as does Tale of the Former Day which explains Orochi’s origins.

If you’ve not picked up a copy of Warrior Orochi 3 in any form before then this re-release is definitely for you. It includes the original game with some improvements and a swathe of new content that expands the experience. While it hasn’t changed fundamentally it’s a fun game with a supernatural twist for fans of Warriors games. If you’re a fan, this one’s for you.
