Xbox wants (but doesn’t expect) a multi-platform release for Sony’s Helldivers 2

Yeah, unlikely.

Following news that Microsoft will release four unnamed Xbox exclusives to PS5 and/or Switch, Xbox head Phil Spencer has said that he’d like to see the PlayStation first-party Helldivers 2 on Xbox.

“I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2—and it’s a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation—I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox,” Spencer told Stephen Totilo. “If you try to twist yourself to say, like, somehow that benefited somebody somewhere.

“But I get it. There’s a legacy in console gaming that we’re going to benefit by shipping games and not putting them on other places,” Spencer continued. “We do the same thing.”

Regardless, Spencer told Totilo that, “shipping more games in more places and making them more accessible to more people is a good part of the gaming business.”

This appears to be Xbox’s strategy going forward, though Spencer was careful not to name any of the four planned multi-platform releases at the same time adding that those on Switch and PS5 shouldn’t expect all Xbox games on those platforms.

Helldivers 2 is currently available on Windows PC and PS5… and we wouldn’t hold our breath that it’ll appear on Xbox.
