Xbox Series consoles can download updates in energy saver mode

Using far less power when you're not playing.

Xbox Series consoles can now download updates in energy saving mode, Microsoft announced as part of new sustainability efforts.

Energy saver mode takes longer for the Xbox to boot back up after being turned “off”, but the benefit is the mode uses roughly twenty times less power than instant-on mode.

While those of us with an Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X will need to go in and change power settings in light of this news, Microsoft has advised that new consoles will default to energy saver mode from now on.

To change your power plan, go to Settings > General > Sleep mode & startup and change Sleep mode to Energy saver.

You might also need to check for an update by heading over into Settings > System > Updates.

Xbox plans to be carbon negative, water positive and zero waste by 2030. In that same timeframe, the company plans to design all products and packaging to be 100% recyclable in certain countries. Already, Xbox controllers are now being built using recycled plastics.
