The rumours are swirling.
A new Xbox next-gen console is reportedly targeting a 2027 release, while an Xbox-branded console from a “PC gaming OEM” is expected later this year.
The reports come from Windows Central, which says that Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console has seen approvals “all the way up to CEO Satya Nadella” and is “fully in production”. Claiming the console is a “premium successor to the powerful Xbox Series X,” other specifics remain slight.
A third-party Xbox handheld, however, is reportedly due for release later this year and will be trusted to an unnamed “PC gaming OEM”. The device has allegedly been given the codename Keenan.
In addition to the third-party Xbox handheld, Windows Central says Microsoft is also hard at work on its own specific Xbox handheld. It too is slated for a 2027 release.
Back in February of last year, Xbox’s Sarah Bond said Microsoft was still “invested in the next-generation roadmap”, despite falling sales. Microsoft has since branched out, releasing a selection of its first-party titles to the PS5; Forza Horizon 5 is due on PS5 in late April.
