Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines Xbox Live, Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a combined subscription including the benefits of Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass, was today confirmed by Microsoft.

Mirroring reports from earlier this month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will provide access to the Xbox Live Gold multiplayer network and free, monthly Games With Gold titles alongside the Xbox Game Pass library of over 100 Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles and a 20% discount should you decide to purchase a title from the (ever-rotating) library.

Priced at $15.95 AUD per month (or $14.99 USD) the new combined subscription will launch “later this year in current Xbox Game Pass markets,” Microsoft advised. Currently, one month of Xbox Game Pass costs $10.95 AUD and a month of Xbox Live Gold is priced at $10.95 AUD. Microsoft also said that “a limited number of our Xbox Insider community members” will be approached to test Xbox Game Pass Ultimate functionality ahead of release.

At the moment, it’s unclear how Microsoft will treat existing customers who’ve both an Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass subscription. We’ve asked Microsoft if those customers will automatically be rolled into the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription instead, and if they’ll receive an extension of service that takes the subscriptions’ discounted rates into account.

We’ll let you know when Microsoft sets a release date for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or responds to our request for further comment. In the meantime, what do you think of the combined subscription?
