Watch Dogs’ drop-in, drop-out multiplayer mode can be turned off

Watch Dogs’ Lead Game Designer Danny Belanger reaffirmed in a recent livestream that the game’s drop-in, drop-out multiplayer can be turned off for those who don’t want to use it.

We imagine those with horrible friends would want to turn the feature off to preserve their own game.

“All the online activities are just part of the menu,” Belanger said of the feature. “They’re a choice. But if someone is not into that …. they can totally turn it off.”

For those a little more trusting of their friends, Belanger said that Watch Dogs will have a system in place to keep players from constant hacking attempts.

“There’s also something important called the shield. If someone comes into your game, they can’t come in right after so you can’t be spammed in that way — unless you become aggressive and you start going into other people’s games,” Belanger said. “Then you really become available. But it’s just a player choice in the end.”

Watch Dogs will launch on 27 May 27 for PS3, PS4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A Wii U version is still promised at later date.
