Versus Evil staff laid off by TinyBuild days before Christmas

Happy holidays...

The entirety of indie publisher Versus Evil has been laid off by parent company TinyBuild just days before Christmas.

The news comes from a series of tweets from former Versus Evil employees and the publisher’s official account itself.

“Today is a sad day,” reads a post from the Versus Evil account. “After 10 wonderful years, Versus Evil is shutting its doors. We’ve loved bringing you the best indie games we could find and sharing so many happy memories with you all, our amazing community. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything.”

“Unfortunately our parent company has made the decision to lay off the entire team here at Versus Evil,” former community manager Chris Trippi wrote in a tweet.

The statement was bolstered by another former employee named Lauren, who added, “tinybuild just laid off myself and the entire Versus Evil team.”

Versus Evil was founded in 2013 and has published titles including First Class Trouble and Switch versions of Pillars of Eternity and its sequel.

This is sadly just the latest in a string of layoffs that have impacted the industry across 2023. We’ve sadly had to report of layoffs at developers and publishers including Codemasters505 Games’ Digital BrosAmazonBungieMedia MoleculeUbisoft, Aussie studio League of Geeks and many more.

Notably, this isn’t the first round of layoffs at TinyBuild this year.
