A Tale of Two Guardians: How to Refer-a-Friend and light up the night in Destiny: The Taken King

The Refer-a-Friend program for Destiny has launched and brings with it a new questline and some sweet new gear to earn along the way. The quest “A Tale of Two Guardians” is a crash course on Destiny for any newcomer, here’s how to complete it.

First you’ll need a friend. This is probably the hardest part, let’s be honest. Everyone who is likely to buy Destiny probably already has it but if you manage to drag someone in then you’ll want to head to this site, hit “Invite a friend” and send it to your friend. New players qualify for referral for 7 days after they first play Destiny, so make sure you get onto that quickly. Once you’ve done that you can begin the eight step questline “A Tale of Two Guardians”.

The first step, “Comrades in Arms”, is pretty simple — all you have to do is complete a story mission with a friend and you can check it off your list.

Step two is “Wanderers” and requires you to complete six Patrol missions with a friend and one Public Event. You should have no sweat attempting this while cruising through the Cosmodrome. Enemies there will be an appropriate level for your new recruit and Public Events are fairly frequent. This mission rewards you with some telemetries and some treasured memories with your Kinderguardian.

Things get a little tougher in step three, “Forged in Fire”. This one tasks you with winning a Crucible match and doesn’t even give you any rewards. Thanks Shaxx.

The good rewards start in step four but will require a few hours of play to get to. “Our Own Story” requires your Kinderguardian to hit level 40 and rewards both of you with Legendary weapons.

Oh look, we’re at step five already. “Pushing Back the Darkness” ask’s you and your buddy to tackle the Daily Heroic Story mission and gives you High Five, the first of two unique emotes. Bonus points if you complete “Lost to Light” and earn another Black Spindle.

“Heroic Challenges” is step six, smash out a Heroic Strike with your linked friend and you both get Duo Dance, the other (cooler) emote.

Step seven is where it gets real, “Lighting the Night” requires the completion of a Weekly Nightfall Strike. Finish this one and it’s all over bar the shouting.

Well, speaking. Step eight tasks you with returning to the Speaker in the Tower for one final chat in “More Tales to Tell”.

Then that’s it, you’re done. By now your Kinderguardian should be all grown up and suffering from the same healthy Destiny addiction that we’ve all been plagued with in the past. There’s still plenty for them to do of course, there’s raids, Prison of Elders and the PvP events left to sample.

All that’s left now is to convince someone to play…
