Stalker 2 development “continues” despite Russian invasion of Ukraine

The game's official Discord says dev has restarted.

Stalker 2 is reportedly back in development, according to a member of GSC Game World.

Back in March, GSC Game World announced it would pause development on the title due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the time, the Kyiv-based studio said it was focused on survival above anything else.

‘”Gameplay when?’ is no longer the most common question,” the developer wrote in the description of a video released during its announcement. “Now we hear ‘Are you guys okay?’ more and more. Ukraine needs all the help it can get.”

Months later, a member of the dev team has taken to Stalker 2‘s official Discord server to say that, “it continues,” specifically referring to dev work. The studio itself hasn’t issued any formal communications to mirror the sentiment.

In related news, GSC Game World has also changed the name of the title from “Stalker 2 Heart of Chernobyl” to “Stalker 2 Heart of Chornobyl” to reflect Ukrainian rather than Russian spelling of the famed city.

Stalker 2 Heart of Chornobyl is planned for Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The title was recently delayed to 8 December 2022 though it’s unclear if we’ll get it at that time after Russia’s invasion.
