Spider-Man Miles Morales is a smaller standalone game [UPDATE]

Update: Developer Insomniac Games has cut through the confusion with a simple statement declaring Spider-Man Miles Morales is not an expansion but a smaller standalone game likely similar to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the next adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe,” Insomniac wrote. “We will reveal more about this standalone game at a future date.”

Original story: Spider-Man Miles Morales is an expansion to a PS5 version of the original Spider-Man and not a full fledged game of its own, Sony has today clarified.

Today detailed during the PS5 Future of Gaming livestream, you’d be forgiven if you thought that Miles Morales was a fully standalone title.

“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” Sony VP of European Business told The Telegraph (via VGC).

“There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

Sony has already used the PS4’s Spider-Man to show PS5 advancements in storage and presentation.

We’ve asked Sony for further clarification.

Spider-Man Miles Morales and the up-rezzed version of Spider-Man itself head to PS5 later this year, likely timed for the launch of the PS5. We reviewed the PS4’s Spider-Man here.
