Sony blocks PlayStation Plus subs from stacking time ahead of new tiers

No extentions for existing customers.

Sony has acknowledged it is blocking existing PlayStation Plus subscribers from stacking time onto their accounts ahead of the new, tiered PlayStation Plus system.

Users who try to add cheaper PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now time to their existing accounts — therefore, attempting to elongate the time they’ll receive when Sony converts as part of its new PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, Deluxe and Premium systems — are met with an error.

On an FAQ page, Sony has acknowledged the situation.

“As we prepare to launch the new PlayStation Plus membership service, we are doing some work behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible for all of our existing members,” one answer begins.

“As part of this work, we’ve temporarily disabled stacking memberships for existing customers until after the launch. Rest assured that your voucher code is still valid, and you will be able to redeem your code either when your existing membership expires and deactivates, or after the new PlayStation Plus service launches in your area, whichever happens first.”

From the FAQ, it appears that stacking is still possible, but will have to be performed after the new PlayStation Plus system debuts.

According to Eurogamer, existing PlayStation Plus vouchers will covert to the following new Plus tiers:

  • 1-month PlayStation Plus vouchers: 31 days of Plus Essential, 20 days of Plus Extra or 17 days of Plus Premium
  • 3-month Plus vouchers: 92 days of Plus Essential, 58 days of Plus Extra or 46 days of Plus Premium
  • 12-month Plus vouchers: 365 days of Plus Essential, 219 days of Plus Extra or 183 days of Plus Premium

It’s unclear how many days of Deluxe — Australia’s highest tier — are offered for existing PlayStation Plus vouchers.

The new, tiered PlayStation Plus subscription starts up on 22 June here in Australia.
