Sea of Thieves cross-play to become optional

Sea of Thieves will make cross-play between Windows PC and Xbox One users optional ahead of a wave of PvP-focused updates heading to the game.

Producer Joe Neate made the confirmation in a recent developer update, saying Xbox One players will be able to choose if they’d like to play against Windows PC or not. Details of the opt out process are still being finalised; at present, cross-play is enabled by default.

Sea of Thieves will be optimised this week, greatly reducing the game’s overall file size; the catch is that players will need to redownload the entire game (again).

Sea of Thieves is available now on Windows PC and Xbox One; it’s part of the Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere programs.
