Sony reportedly blocked Destiny cross-platform character transfers

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has alleged that Sony prevented cross-platform character transfers inside Destiny 2.

Speaking with the Splitscreen podcast, Schreier said Sony’s exclusivity partnership with Bungie put the kibosh on cross-platform character transfers.

“I heard that Bungie wanted to do character transfers for PS4, PC – before [the] Forsaken [expansion] came out — but Sony wouldn’t allow it,” Schreier said.

“Sony is just like, we want people to associate Destiny with PS4, even if that means screwing over other players. It sucks and hopefully Bungie ends it.”

Destiny 2 players have long asked for cross-platform functionality inside the game, potentially allowing Guardians the opportunity to bounce between Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 using the same character. Bungie hasn’t confirmed any such functionality to date, but it may soon able to — the developer has split from Activision Blizzard and owns the IP; Sony exclusive content will be available to those on Windows PC and Xbox One from September 2019 (even though some accidentally made it through last week). Maybe we’ll see cross-platform functionality in October?

Destiny 2 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
