Bungie CEO allegedly spends over $2M on classic cars between company layoffs

And after the news that Pete Parsons has laid off 220 more staff members, folks aren't happy...

Following Sony’s acquisition of Bungie back in February 2022 — and two bouts of layoffs at the studio, including this week’s announcement that 220 employees had lost their jobs — Bungie CEO Pete Parsons is under fire for allegedly spending more than $2 million USD on classic cars.

Yesterday, Parsons took to a Bungie blog to confirm that 220 employees no longer had a job at Bungie, and that 155 more would be integrated into Sony Interactive Entertainment. His announcement was met criticism of Bungie executive management and even calls to resign.

“Step down, Pete,” wrote Liana Ruppert, who was laid off in 2023. “You are a lia[r], a thief, and so many things we can’t discuss publicly. STEP DOWN and WITHOUT the giant Sony payout. This isn’t on Sony, this is squarely on the failure of lead ship. Plain and simple.”

Valorant player association program manager Taylor Broomall took things a step further, detailing an account called “bngpparsons” that has spent more than $2 million USD on classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

“Bungie lays off 17% of it’s workforce… unrelated here is a list of cars the CEO has purchased on BAT”, Broomall wrote. “Players and workers need to support each other.”

The first purchase on the account — not yet confirmed to belonged to Parsons — was back in September 2022, and the most recent in June 2024. Several vehicles under the account appear to also feature in a Flickr album titled “Avants hosts a private tour of Pete Parsons’ car garage collection”.

We’ll update this story as it continues to develop.
