PSVR2 won’t play original PSVR games

Sony’s PSVR2 — or the PlayStation VR2 — won’t play original, PS4 PSVR (PlayStation VR) games.

“PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience,” said Hideaki Nishino of Sony as part of the company’s official PlayStation podcast.

Nishino continued on to say the PSVR2’s “much more advanced features” meant that PSVR games wouldn’t be compatible.

“This means developing games for PSVR2 requires a whole different approach than the original PSVR,” Nishino asserted.

Sony has detailed new PSVR2 features earlier in the year; they include eye tracking, inside-out tracking, 4K HDR support and a new control system that features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
