PS4 Pro 500 Million console a $700 AUD thank you to fans

Sony Australia has today confirmed the availability of the PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition, calling the $699.95 AUD console a “thank you to all the fans to have supported and enjoyed entertainment on the platform.”

The limited edition console celebrates 500 milllion PlayStations sold across the PSone, PS2, PS3 and PS4 lines.

While that price point is a bit steep, it’s worth considering the special dark blue translucent console comes with a 2TB hard drive instead of the standard 1TB. The console also comes with a matching dark blue translucent DualShock 4 controller.

Moreover, a Gold Wireless Headset 500 Million Limited edition will go on sale, separate from the console bundle. It retails for $129.95 AUD, while separate DualShock 4 controllers can also be purchased for $99.95 AUD.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the continued support from our fans and business partners, who have all contributed to PlayStation’s rich history. Without our passionate community, we would not have been able to surpass this remarkable milestone of 500 million units.” said John Kodera, SIE President and CEO.

“PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition has been created to represent our appreciation to our loyal fans. We will continue to make PlayStation the best place to play for all, as does our continued commitment to expanding our library of great games and variety of network services.”

Expect the PS4 Pro bundle and separate DualShock 4 500 Million Limited edition units from 24 August. Only 50,000 limited edition consoles will be available globally, Sony confirmed. The Gold Wireless Headset 500 Limited edition follows later on 11 October.

Update: We’ve corrected the release date of the Gold Wireless Headset.
