NHL 21 HUT Rush today detailed by EA Vancouver

NHL 21 HUT Rush is the game’s newest mode, shown off early this morning by EA and developer EA Vancouver.

A new take on Hockey Ultimate Team — or HUT — HUT Rush is a score-based system where players complete against one another (and likely, in single-player), amassing points through style-based play to best their opponents.

“With HUT Rush’s Style Scoring system, how players score determines the points multiplier. A 2-on-1 cross crease pass for an easy one-timer won’t earn you as many points as a saucer pass to a streaking forward who tucks in the puck one handed. With HUT RUSH, the prettier the play, the bigger the bonus,” EA said of the mode.

“Players will compete in seasons with all different kinds of games — 3v3, 5v5, timed games, goal limit games — to earn rewards and progress through the rankings. We’ve also added new exciting ways to play like first goal wins and Money Puck.”

As you can see from the gameplay below, it’s basically a combination of Threes, HUT and regular NHL play, with some pretty replayable results — that’s in terms of replays, not necessarily repeat plays of the game. Which are different from Plays of the Game. You get it.

NHL 21 heads to Xbox One and PS4 on 16 October; a next-gen release on Xbox Series X and PS5 is not planned. Expect more from Stevivor soon.
