NHL 19 skips the Frostbite engine for another year, EA confirms

NHL 19 doesn’t use the current-gen Frostbite engine, EA has recently confirmed.

EA Sports NHL Producer, Sean Ramjagsingh, made the confirmation with USGamer last week.

“We’re still evaluating [the Frostbite engine],” Ramjagsingh said.

“It’s not easy getting on a new engine, it’s kind of like a console transition. We’re monitoring FIFA and Madden and learning about the successes and challenges they’ve had.”

NHL remains one of the only EA Sports titles not to use the new engine. Frostbite also powers titles like Battlefield 1, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Need for Speed: Payback and upcoming games like Anthem and Battlefield 5.

At the very least, Ramjasingh’s answer is more direct this year than last.

“With NHL 18, our sole focus was on delivering best feature set possible that best replicates the speed, skill and creativity of the new NHL,” Ramsagsingh told Stevivor when asked about the franchise and Frostbite.

NHL 19 heads to Xbox One and PS4 on 14 September.
