The next generation of Microsoft console(s) simply named Xbox

While the console formerly known as Project Scarlett has officially been named Xbox Series X, Microsoft has confirmed that the next-generation of Xbox consoles is simply that: Xbox.

“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox,” a Microsoft representative has told Business Insider in regards to the console generation’s name. “And at The Game Awards you saw that name come to life through the Xbox Series X.

“Similar to what fans have seen with previous generations, the name ‘Xbox Series X’ allows room for additional consoles in the future.”

“The name Xbox is an expression of our deep history in gaming, our team’s unrelenting passion, and our commitment to both our fans and the future of gaming at Microsoft,” a Microsoft representative added in conversation with Stevivor. “It also signifies our belief that a gaming console should be for just that – gaming.”

Not only does the confirmation give us the proper name of the next-gen Xbox, it also bolsters the possibility of a lower-power, perhaps even discless, Xbox Series S. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
