More layoffs at Behaviour, CI Games and WIMO Games

Even more layoffs are impacting the games industry, with confirmed job losses at Dead by Daylight‘s Behaviour Interactive and Lords of the Fallen‘s CI Games alongside the closure of Micro Machines Mini Challenge Mayhem‘s WIMO Games.

Behaviour Interactive blamed “changing market conditions” for layoffs in its Montreal studio, which totalled 3% of its workforce.

“Recently, changing market conditions necessitated adjusting the scope of several Behaviour projects,” Behaviour told Game Developer. “In these situations, our preference is always to reassign talent to other projects. Unfortunately, this option is not always available to us. These departures represented less than three percent of our total workforce.”

CI Games will lay off 10% of its staff, it recently confirmed.

“To preserve business strength and stability, CI Games has made the tough but necessary decision to implement a targeted round of redundancies, affecting approximately 10 percent of employees across the company,” CI Games CEO Marek Tymiński told GamesIndustry. “We would like to thank each of them for the part they’ve played during their time with us.”

Tymiński also said more layoffs could be on the horizon, adding, “[f]urther business optimizations are being made to the organization’s pipelines and processes.”

Finally, WIMO Games CEO Dave Rosen has confirmed the studio is in the process of closing. Approximately 35 staff members will lose their jobs as a result.

“I can confirm that this week we began winding down operations at WIMO Games,” Rosen said in a statement to Stevivor. “It’s been an incredible three years working with this fantastic team and this is not the outcome we had hoped for.

“Our passionate and incredibly talented team members will be looking for new jobs and were provided severance to assist in the transition. If you have roles available, or if you’ve spotted any openings, please contact WIMO through LinkedIn or those individuals directly. We appreciate our players and the many organizations who have collaborated with us so much.”

More than an estimated 10,000 layoffs have rocked the gaming industry in 2023 and 2024, impacing developers and publishers including Codemasters505 Games’ Digital BrosAmazonBungieMedia MoleculeUbisoft, Aussie studio League of GeeksVersus Evil and many more.

Layoffs reported in 2024 have included the likes of Thunderful, Embracer and GearboxTwitch (again), and Unity.
