Report: Microsoft streams Halo 4 to PC and Windows Phone

The Verge today reports that Microsoft in the midst of building its own cloud streaming service, and tested it today by streaming Halo 4 to both a low-end PC and Nokia Lumia.

Whilst stressing the meeting was one to illustrate proof of concept, sources told The Verge that latency on the Nokia Lumia 520, running Windows Phone, was down to 45 milliseconds.

The internal meeting featured an Xbox controller plugged into a low-end PC using a USB port, and an Xbox controller plugged into a special accessory for the Lumia.

Theoretically, Microsoft could use this service on Xbox One to support backward compatibility for Xbox 360 games, much like Sony plans to use Gaikai streaming to support PS3 games on the PS4.

Earlier in the month, Microsoft’s Albert Penello said that the company is looking into cloud-served backward compatibility for the Xbox One.
