While some have welcomed the ROG Xbox Ally X with open arms, others still are hesitant about its price tag: $1,599 AUD here in Australia. According to Xbox president Sarah Bond, that price tag comes from ASUS, not Microsoft.
“We looked at, how do we create multiple options for people? And it really was ASUS, because this is their hardware,” Bond told Variety as part of a larger interview. “That is all of their insight into the market, into the feature set, into what people want, to determine the ultimate prices of the devices.”
High price or not, Bond said she and Microsoft, “feel really good about the value that we’re giving gamers for the price, based off the reception to the hardware.”
And she’s not wrong, further speaking to the handheld’s success.
“We sold out of the Xbox Store,” Bond continued. “We sold really quickly at a number of other places around the world.”
Our ROG Xbox Ally X review unit should arrive in our office today, so expect our thoughts shortly. In the meantime, here’s what we thought about the ROG Ally and the ROG Ally X.
