Microsoft, Oculus team up to take on Sony’s Project Morpheus: Rift available early 2016, streams from Xbox One

It appears that Oculus and Microsoft have teamed up to take on Sony’s Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset.

At Oculus’ pre-E3 conference today, the company declared its Rift VR headset will be available in early 2016. Moreover, the Rift will come bundled with an Xbox One controller and will stream games from the Xbox One itself.

“Rift will work with Windows 10 allowing users to stream their Xbox One games such as Halo, Forza, and Sunset Overdrive to the Oculus Rift using the controller that they know and love,” Xbox head Phil Spencer said during the briefing.

“We’re thrilled to be working closely with the team at Oculus,” Spencer continued. “Their groundbreaking work in virtual reality is inspiring, and the Oculus Rift delivers a truly next-generation VR experience.

“We at Xbox are passionate about giving gamers the opportunity to play when and where they want. I can’t wait to see the incredible games created for the Rift, and we are proud to be part of the experience.”

Xbox’s Major Nelson and Microsoft’s Vice President of next-gen experiences Kudo Tsunoda discus the news in the video below.

We’ll have more on Oculus at E3 this year.
