Microsoft has announced a “strategic, multi-year agreement” with AMD to to produce the next-generation of Xbox consoles.
“We’ve established a strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles,” the company said in the description of a video update from president Sarah Bond.
“Together, we’re delivering deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences – grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library,” the description continued.
In the video, above, Bond promised the agreement would advance “the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI.”
Last year, Bond said next-gen consoles would deliver “the biggest technological leap ever in a generation,” and today promised that next-gen consoles will deliver “an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device” and insisted that Xbox will be working with Microsoft Windows team “to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming.”
What does that mean right now? Well, not a lot — but we’ll keep you posted as Microsoft shares more in the future.
