Lord of the Rings Gollum apology may have been written by ChatGPT

Yikes.

A new report alleges that The Lord of the Rings Gollum‘s big post-launch apology may have been written by ChatGPT.

The report comes from a German interview conducted by GameTwo (as spotted by Knoebel), in which two sources make the claim.

Essentially, the claim states that developer Daedalic knew nothing of the apology ahead of its publication, saying that publisher Nacon was responsible. The developer alleges that ChatGPT was used to fabricate the apology, which stated that Gollum was an “underwhelming experience” that Daedalic itself “deep[ly] regret[ted]”.

Daedalic also delved into the release’s failure; the title had been delayed numerous times ahead of launch… and likely needed more time beyond that.

“There were people working on the game that have been developers for 10, 15, 20 years — and they’re good, but they can’t do magic because they weren’t given the funds,” former Daedalic senior developer and technical director, Paul Schulze, stated.

The Lord of the Rings Gollum was released back in May of this year.
