Lizard Squad-like Phantom Squad threatens to bring Xbox Live down over Christmas

Last year, a hacking group known as The Lizard Squad disrupted both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network over the holiday period. Now, a group calling itself The Phantom Squad says it will do it again this year.

Attacks were so bad last year that Mega’s Kim Dotcom offered Lizard Squad lifetime Mega memberships with 500GB of storage if things quieted down. This year, Dotcom says it’s all up to Sony and Microsoft.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony have commented on the threat as yet.

Several arrests have been made to those connected to last year’s distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
