Latest Destiny patch makes big changes to Exotic weapons, materials

Bungie are getting us ready for the first major update to Destiny, with “The Dark Below” downloadable expansion due out 9 December and bringing with it a new raid, some new missions and an increase in the level cap to 32. Just like any other MMO, this increase is preceeded by new ways to make reaching the old cap easier than ever.

On that front you can now buy basic materials such as spinmetal, using crucible or vanguard marks. Further, Exotic armour and weapons will no longer require the elusive Ascendant Materials to upgrade. Instead you will find they need an Exotic Shard, obtained by dismantling Exotic equipment or purchased for 7 Strange Coins. Exotic weapons base statistics have been buffed and several have had overhauls to their performance to make them feel more ‘special’, at least until “The Dark Below” introduces a whole new bunch of weapons and armour that make your hard earned equipment obsolete.

There are plenty of individual changes which you can peruse at Bungie.net, and a couple of technical fixes have been included around Xbox One party chat and networking issues. It is nice that Bungie have attempted to fix some of the issues players have had with grinding in Destiny, but it remains to be seen how effective all of these retooled Exotic weapons will be when the new content arrives and increases the level cap.
