This (was) Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass streaming box

Phil Spencer looks to have dropped a tease...

Xbox head Phil Spencer looks to have shown off a prototype for Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass streaming box.

Microsoft confirmed back in the day that is was working on a streaming box called Project Keystone, though in May 2022 the company confirmed it was pivoting away from such a device. In its stead, Microsoft has done things like partner with Samsung for an in-built Xbox Game Pass streaming app inside new TVs.

Regardless, Spencer used a celebratory Fallout 25th anniversary tweet to showcase an unknown device, one that looks surprisingly like a smaller Xbox Series S console. Fans speculated it could be Project Keystone, or even an Xbox Series S external drive that Microsoft filed a patent for earlier in the year.

Update: Microsoft has since confirmed this is a prototype Xbox Game Streaming box.

The official Xbox account got in on the fun, saying, “Now what did we say about putting old prototypes on your shelf boss.”

We’ll let you know if Microsoft confirms what the device is, but for now: what do you think it is?
