iPhone 15 Pro uses USB-C and runs Resident Evil 4, Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Big news.

Apple today announced the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max alongside some big changes including USB-C and the ability to run titles like Resident Evil 4 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

“A17 Pro unlocks next-level gaming experiences and pro performance,” Apple said in a press release. “The new USB‑C connector is supercharged with USB 3 speeds — up to 20x faster than USB 2 — and together with new video formats, enables powerful pro workflows that were not possible before.”

The upgraded gaming capabilities of the Pro and Pro Max mean they’ll be able to play titles including Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, and Death Stranding in 203, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage in “the first half of 2024”.

“The pro-class GPU is up to 20 per cent faster and unlocks entirely new experiences, featuring a new 6-core design that increases peak performance and energy efficiency,” Apple said. “Now with hardware-accelerated ray tracing — which is 4x faster than software-based ray tracing — iPhone 15 Pro offers smoother graphics, as well as more immersive AR applications and gaming experiences.”

High performance also comes at a high cost — in Australia, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1,849 AUD, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start at $2,199 AUD. The Pro offers up a 126GB model, and both handsets offer 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options as well. The Pro features a 6.1-inch screen, while the Pro Max comes in at 6.7 inches.

Update: Capcom today added more information about Resident Evil releases on iPhone.

“Capcom’s RE ENGINE fully supports Metal, making it possible to create high-quality versions of the newest Resident Evil titles, taking full advantage of Apple silicon and powerful features like MetalFX Upscaling to deliver impressive performance and incredibly responsive gameplay across iPhone, iPad, and Mac,” it said in a press release.

“Available on the App Store later this year, both games support cross-progression, so players’ progress is synced across iPhone, iPad, and Mac,” Capcom continued. “With a free download, players can experience high-end gameplay with stunning graphics before accessing the full game with one in-app purchase.”
