Here’s the first level of Star Trek Prodigy Supernova

Use our gameplay to figure out if it's a good fit for you and your child.

The VERY child-friendly Star Trek Prodigy now has its first video game spinoff in Star Trek Prodigy Supernova. We thought we’d take you through the game’s first level so you can see if it’s a good fit for you and your video game-playing children.

Straight off the bat, Prodigy Supernova can be played in single-player or two-player co-op. In the former, one player can swap between two characters, while in co-op you’re locked to a single character each.

Supernova appears to be a blend between puzzle solving and combat, much like Lego titles. In the first level, you basically run through a largely linear path, collecting resources, finding collectibles and dispatching enemies.

Puzzles seem relatively simple, perfect for younger players, though combat sequences are bountiful and could prove a challenge, depending on the age of a player. There is a revival system, and on top of that combat shouldn’t be too difficult for older types.

Much in the vein of Lego titles, it looks like players will need to either backtrack or replay previous levels using new characters unlocked during play; in this first level, we needed one player to be controlling engineer Jankom Pog to gain access to a specific section.

Prodigy Supernova is a little barebones in places — it’s be nice to see the same level of animation in cutscenes as in the TV show proper — but it does have some tremendous voice acting courtesy the same actors who star on the show.

Take a look at the first level of Star Trek Produgy Supernova for yourself, below, and decide whether or not it’s a good purchase for you.

Star Trek Prodigy Supernova is now available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Switch.
