Gears 5 Arcade mode explained by The Coalition

Gears 5 Arcade mode has been recently shown off by developer The Coalition.

The new mode essentially combines a host of existing Gears of War multiplayer mechanics to make something altogther unique. It provides hero shooter-like passive skills to characters in its roster, offering them unique loads and buildout paths as well. Say goodbye to everyone running around the map with a Gnasher shotty, in other words.

Moreover, the mode uses a currency system called Skulls to buy power weapons. Skulls are earned through kills and assists and persist through your lives. Power weapons that you buy with them, however, are dropped when you’re killed.

You can check an explainer video out below.

Gears 5 heads to Windows PC and Xbox One as part of the Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere programs on 10 September. A Tech Test starts in a couple days; those with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have instant access.
